Y4 Bus Service‏

$

Dhru Shah writes: I’m very sad to hear that Y4 is to be stopping its service to/from Nottingham at the end of July 2016.

Since it started last year, with its promotions and discount fares, Y4 was very competitive. Indeed, its forced Trent Barton to up its game, putting on extra buses, and holding their fares. I guess i4’s reaction to this increased competition has finally succeeded.

What are the bets that once Y4 stops, we will see the return to overcrowded buses, long bus stop queues at peak times, longer waits, and increases in fares returning?

A section of the iconic poppies which surrounded the Tower of London in memory of fallen soldiers, have been installed down the side of the Silk Mill Tower, at Derby’s Silk Mill Museum, to form part of the Weeping Window, a nationwide tour.

The installation, which is made up of several thousand ceramic poppies, was created by Derbyshire’s Paul Cummins and captured the world’s attention back in 2014 when they were gradually unveiled at the Tower of London to mark 100 years since the start of the first World War.

The installation will be free for all and will run from Friday 9 June until Sunday 23 July.

Catch the i4 to Derby city centre, the Silk Mill is a short walk away.

County’s First Electric Buses to be running locally

$
0
0

The County’s first-ever electric buses are gearing up to serve local communities in Stapleford, Toton, Attenborough and Beeston from next month.

The £910,000 project comes on the back of more than £500,000 Government funding and £410,000 worth of Nottinghamshire County Council investment.

Bus passengers will soon benefit from quieter, smoother, greener buses on the 510 and 511 routes which run between Beeston, Toton and Stapleford connecting with the tram network at Toton Lane Park and Ride and Beeston Bus and Tram Interchange.

The two new electric buses will be in service from Monday 4 June when a new all-day ticket will also be available to buy on board for use on the bus and tram. Nottinghamshire County Council have partnered with Nottingham Express Transit (NET) to provide the new ‘Nottsbus ECOnnect Plus’ ticket to provide cheaper travel for those residents changing from the bus to tram.

Nottinghamshire County Councillor John Cottee, Chairman for Communities and Place Committee said:  “This is a significant moment for public transport in our County with the first electric buses due to serve local communities in the Stapleford, Toton Beeston and Attenborough areas.

“These buses built in Falkirk by ADL (Alexander Dennis Ltd) in partnership with BYD (Build your Dreams) are at the forefront of the ‘Green‘ revolution in Zero Emission bus technology and will help improve air quality and reduce CO2 Emissions; as well as informing future Fleet investment decisions by the County Council. I would encourage local residents and visitors to try out these new buses.”

For more details on the buses, timetable and ticketing please go to Nottsbus ECOnnect and the Council’s Social Media accounts.

The main benefits of electric buses, which are of comparable size to the existing bus vehicles in the County Council’s fleet, include:

– Helping to address air quality issues which has a detrimental impact on health

– Help reduce CO2 emissions and help tackle climate change.

– Smoother and quieter journeys for passengers due to reduced engine noise and vibrations when compared with diesel buses.

– Using electricity reduces the operating costs per mile in comparison to diesel.

For more details please contact Pete Mathieson : Pete.mathieson@nottscc.gov.uk or on 0115 9774760.
